World number 48 Peng Shuai is reported to have gone missing in London
Fears are growing for the welfare of a Chinese tennis player who has gone missing in London, British police say.
Peng Shuai, ranked 48th in the world, has not been seen since leaving London’s Heathrow Airport on Friday evening.
It is believed the 32-year-old, who is travelling alone, is in the East Midlands area.
“Crimestoppers has now been made aware of the reports of an unwell missing person in Nottinghamshire,” a police statement said.
“At this stage we have no evidence to suggest that she has any outstanding harm.”
A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said on Sunday that it had treated a woman who had been taken to a medical centre but did not provide further details.
Mrs Shuai lost her first-round match at the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore on Saturday, and world number two Simona Halep from Romania said after her victory: “For sure, I’m thinking about the incident. So hopefully we’ll know soon where she is.”
