UPDATE: Watch Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes’ wedding rehearsal here.
A source tells ET that the pair had two weeks worth of wedding planning planned before the break up. The source added that the pair always had problems “with their schedules and [sometimes] how they could make it work.” It’s unclear what sparked the break up.
UPDATE: Music’s hottest couple Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have broken up after two years of dating, a source confirms to ET.
On Tuesday, the pair posted split photos via their Instagram pages.
Just a couple hours later, Cabello shared a collage of photos as well.
“I am unable to answer or answer rumors. This is an internal and personal thing,” she wrote, referring to the friend who shared the photos to her.
Before fame, they were high school sweethearts.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello met in 2015 at a private school they attended in Toronto, Canada. The couple began dating shortly after the break up, when Cabello returned to the stage at Mendes’ concert as a “break-up” act. Mendes admitted he knew he wanted to be with Cabello from the get-go.
“I feel like in relationships, things can take an unexpected turn,” Mendes told ET Canada back in 2015. “Sometimes I can totally let go of a relationship if things aren’t going my way for whatever reason. I just don’t get tied up in things if things aren’t working out.”
The two broke up and reconciled in 2016, but they’ve now called it quits once again.
In the video announcement, Mendes asks to be described as a person with a strong love, emotion, ability to share music, laugh, enjoy the company of others and to use their experience as an inspiration to others.
Cabello thanked Mendes for being her best friend and releasing music with her. The singer sang Mendes’ “Mercy” as he spoke.
“Dear Shawn, I love you so much. I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished. You’re one of my best friends and have inspired me in so many ways through the years. I am so sorry. We just realized that we’re better as friends. I wish you the best. I love you and so much respect,” Cabello said.
Their on-again, off-again love came to an end on the 29th, when Cabello posted an Instagram story discussing how she was afraid that Mendes was “taking advantage” of her and feeling “trapped” in a “wasted relationship.”
The two began dating in 2015, and the musician also expressed a desire to keep their relationship out of the spotlight.
“I would never ever go on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I would never ever talk about someone I’m dating or someone I was friends with publicly or off camera. I respect and adore her so much, I want to be a part of her talk show, but I will never take her fancy for granted, so I have learned not to do that,” Mendes said.
“Everyone knows our love story. Everyone knows everything about me and her. It’s not fair to our fans for them to be used and then sold on something that we made up,” Cabello added.
